Overview
Located in the high plateau and southeastern parts of Lesotho lies a hidden wonder Sehlabathebe National Park. Founded in 1970, the park was established as Lesotho’s second national park, following shortly after the creation of Tsehlanyane National Park in 1969.
Sehlabathebe National Park was created by Chief Leabua Jonathan, Lesotho’s first Prime Minister.
It’s part of the Maloti-Drakensberg World Heritage Site. It was created to protect the pristine landscape, wildlife, and cultural heritage of the region. Today, the park remains a significant conservation area within the country.
Did you know that the park lies at an impressive altitude between 7,200 to 7,900 feet (2,200 to 2,400 meters)? It spans 25.1 square miles (65 km²) in Lesotho, and a small piece of 0.9 square miles (2.4 km²) lies in uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park. It is one of the highest national parks in Lesotho.
