This isn’t the place to come for big game, but you’ll see plenty of hippo, zebra, warthog and different species of antelope, including rarer suni varieties and blue and red duiker. Other rare species on offer here include black-backed jackals, blue wildebeest and African wild cat, while bushbabies, aardvarks, porcupines and honey badgers are present, but more difficult to spot due to their shy nature. If you’re into reptiles there are crocodiles, monitor lizards, skinks and the southern tree agama, as well as a good selection of snakes.
There’s a great variety of birdlife here. You can spot bee-eaters and black-bellied bustards in the grasslands, kingfishers, fish eagles and weavers around water sources and purple-crested touraco, bush-shrikes and green-pigeon in the forests.
