Addo Elephant National Park

Overview

Proclaimed as a national park in 1931, Addo Elephant National Park was originally established to protect and provide sanctuary for the remaining 11 Addo elephants and other species in the area. Due to great conservation efforts, the park currently boasts with over 600 elephants making it a wonder to witness these gentle giants. But don’t think they are the only majestic wildlife that will mesmerize you. This park is also home to zebras, eland, kudu, hyaenas, blue duiker, aardwolf, and more. 

Located in the beautiful Eastern Cape of South Africa, what sets Addo Elephant National Park apart is the various landscapes visitors encounter. From lush greenery and rolling hills to a marine protected area stretching across Bird Island and St Croix Island, offering a chance to spot whales and dolphins. It is one of few parks to have the Big Seven due to its unique and vast landscape, including the elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo, lion, southern right whale, and great white shark.

Addo Elephant National Park is the third-largest national park in South Africa. Besides the wondrous wildlife, it has a rich cultural heritage, including signs of early habitation and artifacts from the San people in the caves of the Zuurberg Mountains.
